First, culture is something that exists both internally and is reflected as well as externally. If you treat your employees well, if you have a great organizational culture, that's going to be reflected in how your organization treats their customers.
I'd go one step away from your question for a moment to say that, an employer's brand externally should not be that much different from the employer brand internally, they should really be highly aligned.
I really think that it's not simply about having great policies and having, great benefits, those are becoming really table stakes. A good organization really understands how to create a high level of engagement within the workforce, that starts with creating a high level of transparency and a low level of hierarchy. Key ingredients for great company culture are: the ability to share information, the comfort that employees have, and asking the questions that they have, really creating that culture where nothing is taboo or can't be asked.
Recognizing that it's more of a collaboration now, it is at so much about how we work together and the ability to get individuals involved, and then give them the room to maneuver. I think that's so important nowadays, that you leave employees the room to make decisions and to be involved in their work, and guide the direction of it, that takes a special kind of leadership.
The last ingredient that I would say that is key is, how to make sure that you instill some common language and understanding in an organization. For me, one of the secret ingredients here, has been about understanding not only those components we just talked about, but also common language and
understanding, how individuals think, can work together.
We've incorporated some concepts of neuroscience into our orientation and how we talk with each other. How we treat each other so that we understand what a bad day might look like, and we understand exactly how to have and continue to have a positive mindset in the work that we do.
