Hong Kong pro-democracy activists honoured at Halifax security forum

Hong Kong pro-democracy activists honoured at Halifax security forum Two pro-democracy activists from Hong Kong were honoured on Saturday at the Halifax International Security Forum.

Figo Chan and Emily Lau were presented with the John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service. The award, according to the forum, pays homage to those fighting for freedom.

It comes as China is pushing back against Washington, D.C. after Congress passed a bill that would require the government to annually confirm the freedoms to trade and export controls for Hong Kong. It also lays out a process for the President to impose sanctions on those found to be violating internationally recognized human rights. Abigail Bimman reports.
