On November 2nd 2019, I went to the North Carolina Transportation Museum to see the N&W #611. On this day, she was doing “At the Throttles” in which you pay ($611 ironically) to operate the locomotive in 30 minute segments. Also available, were caboose rides on the N&W caboose which #611 was pulling. The museum changed the route that #611 goes on. Instead of going back and forth on the track near the road, she was on the portion of track that goes out to the gravel rail road crossing. This allows for more #611 to have more track (about 0.75 - 1 mile instead of 0.4 miles like last year) and more speed. She did not pull the museum train this year although the new route for the caboose rides more than made up for that. I took a caboose ride and videoed a lot of it. The N&W #611 put on a great show and I can’t wait to see it again soon. Enjoy!
