KOALA Sampler for iOS - Auto-Slicing (Part 1)

KOALA Sampler for iOS - Auto-Slicing (Part 1) KOALA (by Elf Audio) - The ultimate pocket-sized sampler

Koala has some not-so-obvious features, like the ability to trigger its pads from external MIDI notes - either live, from a MIDI sequencer, or any other source that outputs MIDI notes.

In this tutorial, I show how to "Auto-Slice" a loop into separate samples on to KOALA's pads. Instead of manually tapping each pad to go into SAMPLE MODE, it'll be done automatically by an external sequence of MIDI notes.

This is a very quick, basic demo - but the principle applies to whatever loop you want to break up into small slices in KOALA. The technique allows you to split up a longer piece of audio into precise musical units - such as measures, half-notes, eight-notes, etc. and be able to play them from KOALA's pads.

I realized afterwards that I never mentioned the name of the Filter plugin that I'm running the guitar loop through. It's the F-16 Multi-Mode Filter from Blamsoft ( It sounds great, has lots of uses - and it's FREE! Get it on the App Store:

KOALA is extremely fun to use, but also a serious sampler, geared toward getting ideas down quickly and letting your creativity just go with KOALA's intuitive workflow.
