A sex crimes detective in Los Angeles County has pleaded guilty in a sex crime against a 15-year-old girl whose case he was investigating.Neil Kimball, 46, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Ventura County Superior Court to felony counts of lewd act on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse.Unlawful sexual intercourse is the California crime more commonly known as statutory rape.Ventura Senior Deputy District Attorney Patrice Koenig said in a statement that Kimball was expected to be sentenced to three years in prison under the terms of his plea agreement. He will also have to register as a sex offender. Share this article Share Kimball met the teen after she called authorities to report that she was a victim of sexual assault in Los Angeles. Kimball was a detective at the time with the Special Victims Bureau. Prosecutors said the incident occurred in a mobile home Kimball owned in Ventura County in November of 2017.It was uncovered after one of Kimball's colleagues was reviewing his cases when he took medical leave, Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell told KABC.The department undertook a review of roughly 300 cases that Kimball investigated for the Special Victims Bureau. ince his arrest in November, Kimball has been held in lieu of a $2million bail in Ventura County Jail. He is no longer eligible to post bond after pleading guiltyKimball was investigated back in 2009 after a woman complained to the sheriff's office that he had allegedly forced her to touch his genitals. He was called to investigate a case at a Travel Inn and was questioning a group of women at the time, according to documents. Prosecutors declined to charge him in that case because there was insufficient evidence.Since his arrest in November, Kimball has been held in lieu of a $2million bail in Ventura County Jail. He is no longer eligible to post bond after pleading guilty. Kimball is due to be sentenced on August 8.
