Imagine war has just broken out with Russia, and Vladimir Putin reaches for this simple case and unleashes Armageddon across the globe
Russia ’s nuclear strike trigger concealed in a briefcase has been pictured for the first time ever – and it is capable of sparking Armageddon.
Imagine World War 3 has just broken out, and so Vladimir Putin reaches for this simple case.
He pops it open and presses the big white button, and suddenly missiles are flying from silos around Russia – hurtling towards the US and Britain.
Millions die in a flash as strike and counter-strike fly back and forth. Quickly the world descends into an apocalyptic nuclear winter – with huge swathes of the planet now an irradiated wasteland.
The terrifying situation sends chills down your spine.
And now we have been given a sneak peak at the inside of the briefcase which could send the whole chain of events in motion
Russian TV revealed the internal controls of Putin’s nuclear arsenal for the first time.
The briefcase has a personalised key code, a flash card, and is under 24/7 supervision.
It is reportedly supervised by a soldier who accompanies the Russian President wherever he goes.
The briefcase, called Cheget in Russian, was developed in the early 1980s.
It has now been shown to the public for the first time, with it being opened and its contents viewed up close on TV.
Although the case is often seen in the hands of an aide alongside Putin, there are actually not just one but three nuclear briefcases in total.
Each of these three world-ending cases is accessible by the three most highly-ranked officials in the Russian Federation.
One is of course Putin – and also defence minister Sergey Shoydu and Putin’s top general Valeriy Gerasimov.
The most unusual aspect of the briefcase is that the launch button is actually white and not red – with many urban myths often circulating about the “big red button”.
The case was presented on television in a detailed manner for the first time by Zvezda, a TV channel run by Russia's Ministry of Defence
Describing the inner workings of the nuclear briefcase, the TV presenter commented that it was the first time such a device was permitted to be opened on television.
TV presenter Alexei Yegorov explained: “One of the briefcase's components is a flash card. It is individual, and it is one of the keys that is entered [into the system].”
He added that they were not allowed to disclose other sensitive information related to the nuclear briefcase’s functions.
Putin’s opposite number Donald Trump also has a case like this, which is known as the “nuclear football”.
Hidden in Trump’s emergency satchel, the launch device weighs 20kg and contains the “gold codes”.
It also includes detailed plans for a nuclear strike and counterstrike. The US President would have just seconds to study these documents before making a decision on a nuclear attack.
Once he decides to strike, crews in ICBM silos across the US will be ready to fire and 60 seconds.
No one in the world has the authority to stop a nuclear attack once the US President has decided to launch one.
