We made a commitment at the election to deliver a Religious Discrimination Act and we’re keeping faith with that commitment, sharing with Australians details of our proposed laws and listening carefully to their responses. We’ve decided to take a bit more time to get this right by circulating our responses to the issues that have been raised, before finalising a law that can be considered next year.
We want a balanced and common sense law that protects the important religious freedoms Australians value, just as legal protections are rightly provided in other areas like gender and race.
We’re about listening and getting this right, for people of faith and of no faith.
