Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp might launch a raid on Red Bull Salzburg in January after being wowed by Takumi Minamino in the Champions League this season. The Reds have discovered the Japan international - who can play in attacking midfield and across the frontline - has a release clause of just £7.25m. Klopp is eager to bolster his Liverpool squad as they mount a Premier League title tilt and recruiting backup for Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is top of his agenda. And, having seen the 24-year-old score against Liverpool in October and then impress in Tuesday night’s final group stage match in Salzburg, Minamino has given Klopp plenty of food for thought. Minamino arriving at Anfield would offer Klopp the chance to rotate his all-star forward line for what’s set to be a gruelling second half of the season as they compete on four fronts. And it would allow Klopp to farm out Rhian Brewster on loan to help get the young striker some all-important senior minutes, with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa among the clubs interested in securing his services. JUST IN: Liverpool stars hailed by former Reds striker Michael Owen Minamino, who started his career with Cerezo Osaka and then moved to Austria in 2015, has a £7.25m release clause written into the terms of his Salzburg contract. And he would represent something of a bargain in today’s market given his top-level experience, age and obvious quality. Minamino’s mass following in Japan would help Liverpool grow their fan base in Asia - an desire for which they made clear during this summer’s protracted court battle over their kit supplier. The Champions League holders argued Nike - who came out on top - would be better suited to helping them make strides in the Far East than their current supplier, New Balance. Express Sport understands the former Southampton midfielder was keen on a return to the south coast last summer, but he ended up staying put for another 12 months. He might, though, be pushed towards the exit door as Klopp seeks to add fresher, more dynamic options to his playing staff. Liverpool will follow up this week’s 2-0 win over Salzburg by taking on Watford at Anfield on Saturday. Klopp’s men are currently top by eight points having won 15 of their first 16 games of the 2019/20 campaign.
