How 1954 Defined Course Of History For Pakistan

Meraj Muhammad Khan was a popular student politician. He was the founding member of Pakistan People’s Party and a minister for labour and manpower in early 1970s. He was also the first secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

In this classic interview a few years back, he revealed how General Ayub Khan, Chaudhry Ghulam Muhammad and Iskander Mirza plotted against the civilian governments in the 1950s, and how some of the major conspiracies hatched by the three of them in the year 1954 determined the course Pakistan would take in the years to come.

معراج محمد خان ایک مقبول طلبہ لیڈر تھے۔ وہ پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے بانی رکن تھے۔ پاکستان تحریکِ انصاف کے پہلے سیکرٹری جنرل بھی رہے۔ بھٹو صاحب کی ابتدائی کابینہ میں پاکستان کے وزیر محنت کا عہدہ بھی ان کے پاس تھا۔

چند برس قبل اس انٹرویو میں انہوں نے بیان کیا تھا کہ کس طرح جنرل ایوب خان، چودھری غلام محمد اور اسکندر مرزا جمہوریت کے خلاف سازشیں کرتے رہے۔ 1950 کی دہائی میں اور خصوصاً 1954 میں ان لوگوں کی چند سازشوں نے پاکستان کی تاریخ کے دھارے کو ہمیشہ کے لئے متعین کر دیا۔
