In this video we share some great places to visit in Michigan. We have never been to Michigan before and were totally excited to visit the Village at Traverse Commons in Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and the Traverse City Lighthouse in Leelanau State Park. Our lack of planning and therefore 'no reservations made' style of travel was coming to bite us in the rear especially over the Labour Day long weekend. We found ourselves taking however many days we could at any park that had availability and doing some stealth camping in some parking lots. This can get old fast in the RV Sometimer Lifestyle and can cause some crankiness inside the RV as well. So we were thrilled to get out and enjoy some of Michigan's beauty.
The tour and history that we found at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons was crazy, literally, it is a repurposed, beautiful, grand, historically State run Mental Hospital. We loved it, and we may have done some stealth camping there too. Check out my bike here Our Nakto Electric Bike
Then we headed to the popular Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Park. We had heard it was great but expected it to be overwhelmed with people over a long weekend. Of course, we were not able to get a campsite, hence more stealth camping, but everything else we did was fantastic. The biking trails went on and on and so did climbing the sand dunes. We really got a work out here and we our National Park Pass paid off.
Next we headed over to Leelanau State Park to check out Grand Traverse Lighthouse. Again, more history and nice walk along the shores of Lake Michigan. We love learning new things and Michigan has lots to share. It blows our minds that ships, not just boats, but big tanker ships that travel on oceans are travelling, delivering and picking up goods on these Great Lakes.
