This is the quickest and easiest way to remove factory emblems from vehicles without messing up the paint and reinstall new badges. You can skip through most of the part where I’m rubbing the old adhesive off. I just wanted to show everyone how it looks after every rub down. It takes about 5-10 minutes to remove the old.
Step 1: Get a heat gun or blow dryer, fishing line, Goo Gone or similar to remove the sticky tape from the car, car wash/soap, two clean microfiber towels.
Step 2: Turn the heat gun/blow dryer on high and go around the edge of the emblem where it meets the paint. I touched the emblems about every 20 seconds to see if they were hot enough, but be careful. It takes a few minutes to get hot.
Step 3: Once you put heat to it, take 2 to 3 feet of fishing line(30lb line is what I used) and wrap the ends around your fingers and slide it behind the emblem. Using a flossing like motion, cut through the factory adhesive. If your line all of a sudden stops, you’ve hit the back part of the emblem molding that goes into the hole in the fender so pull the line back out, and go at it from a different angle. Use the fishing line on every corner of the emblem that you can.
Step 4: With the adhesive still hot, you can rub the top layer off with your thumb or fingers. If it gets cool, apply more heat and continue to rub off the top layer. Some people use a plastic razor blade, but I didn’t want to chance that on my car.
Step 5: So now there should be a much thinner layer of adhesive left. Using a clean microfiber towel, spray Goo Gone or something similar on the towel and rub the Goo Gone in to what’s left of the adhesive. Using a dry part of the towel, rub the adhesive off. All of it will not come off in one wipe, so repeat this process multiple times. You can also add heat so it’s easier to remove. Goo Gone, wipe with a dry part, more Goo Gone, wipe with a dry part again, and keep repeating until all of it is removed.
Step 6: All of the old adhesive should be removed now. Take a clean microfiber towel and some car wash soap and wash the area where the emblem was to remove all of the Goo Gone.
Step 7: Using a tap measurer or ruler, find a body line that you want to go off of and measure from there. You can mark your spots with a grease pen, dry erase marker, Painter’s tape, etc to help mark where you want your badge to be placed. You can also go off of the lines on the old emblem(if you can see the paint fade of where it was).
Step 8: Enjoy your new badge! Or de-badged car if that’s what you prefer!
