Backpackers may get hundreds of millions of dollars back, after tax overturned by court | ABC News The tax office may soon have to pay back hundreds of millions of dollars after a court ruled that the controversial backpacker tax is invalid.

It was introduced in 2017, but the Federal Court found it was a form of discrimination based on nationality.
