Work is set to begin next year to cap and cover the George Town landfill. The site is nicknamed Mount Trashmore because of its unsightly visual impact.
Two years ago, a Dart-led consortium was revealed as the ‘preferred bidder’ on a new waste management system.
The details of that contract are still being thrashed out.
But an early agreement is now in place to cap and cover the landfill.
The first steps towards an Environmental Impact Assessment on the wider project are also under way.
