Locos at Front & Back || Push Pull Passenger Train

Locos at Front & Back || Push Pull Passenger Train Inorder to save loco reversal timing and also to get better acceleration for trains having multiple halts, recently Indian Railways started to use unique Push-Pull concept where trains are hauled by two locomotives, one at the front end and other one at rear end. During operation, leading loco will be hauling the train while trailing loco will be idle and vice versa. This concept greatly reduces loco reversal timing and train halt time at the railway stations.

Recently, Indian Railways started push pull technique for many trains, one famous train in this catagory is 22221/2 Mumbai CSMT - Hazrat Nizamuddin - Mumbai CSMT Rajdhani Express which is hauled by two WAP7 locomotives in Push/Pull method. SWR first adopted this concept to Bengaluru - Tumakuru - Bengaluru Passenger which is hauled by two EMD Locomotives.

In this video one can see, 56226/Tumakuru - KSR Bengaluru passenger unreserved departing from Hirehalli (HHL) hauled by two EMD locos, WDP4B/40066 at the front end hauling the train and WDP4/20045 idling behind the train. On return journey, WDP4/20045 will be hauling the train and WDP4B/40066 will be idle.

Location: Hirehalli (HHL), South Western Railway.
