While surveying the Battle of Midway site, the crew aboard Vulcan Inc.’s Research Vessel (R/V) Petrel discovered the shipwreck of Japanese aircraft carrier IJN Kaga. During this weeks-long expedition, the crew aboard Petrel surveyed more than 500 square nautical miles to examine the expansive site where the Battle of Midway occurred. This is the first time Petrel has surveyed an entire battlefield, leading them to discover the remains of Kaga.
