Is POSTURE related to the length of our life?

In this video, local Hawthorn Chiropractor - Dr Tony Rose discusses research from the American Geriatric Society. In this study, researchers looked at the possible link between posture (hyperkyphosis - an increase forward curve of the mid/upper back) and an increased rate of death.

Fascinatingly the researcher concluded the following... "Older men and women with hyperkyphotic posture have higher mortality rates." What does this mean?

That poor posture - in this case an increase in the forward curve of the spine is linked to a greater chance of death. Wow.

The take home message is this. When do the posture patterns in old age begin? Thats right, at a younger age. Let's not wait until these postural changes are irreversible. NOW is the time to do something about it.

If you're someone who sits too much or is noticing that your posture is slumping or slouching, if you're getting achy and sore in the neck and mid back then get your posture and spine checked immediately to prevent to decline that could see your life shortened because of it.

We LOVE posture at Auburn South Chiropractic and we are passionate about improving the posture and lifespan of the Hawthorn and Hawthorn East community through gentle and effective Chiropractic care.

Walk tall, smile lots!
