How Much Water You Really Need Daily (by Abazar Habibinia, MD, Director of The CAASN): How much water you really need daily:

One of the questions we get often asked is "how much water I need on daily basis. You usually keep hearing that an average person needs about 6-8 glasses a day. Some people think that those number are myth! Lets see if it is myth or not.

Your daily water intake depends on five factors:
1) Body weight.
2) Activity level.
3) Diets.
4) Environmental temperature.
5) Medical conditions. If you have certain medical conditions such as fever, kidney stones and diarrhea, your daily water intake has to be increased.

An average person need 1 glass of water for every 16 Ibs of his/her body weight.

The amount of water that an average person loses daily is as following:
1100 ml.............urine
500 ml...............skin
400 ml...............breathing
200 ml...............stool

If you put the above numbers together, you get 2200 ml. So, an average person loses 2200 ml water on a daily basis. Since your own body produces about 200 ml water daily (metabolic water), so you lose 2000 ml (2 liters) daily at the end, which is the famous 8 glasses!

The water loss through skin and breathing is called "insensible loss". When you exercise, insensible water loss will increase, as you sweat more and breathe faster. Therefore, your water loss in general will increase during an exercise session, which requires more intake!
