As a writer, thought awareness is a tool that can allow you to carry on no matter what. You see, when you don’t believe your thoughts, you don’t give them power.
Let’s say you think to yourself, “Should I give up?”
It’s not the thought itself that poses a challenge to you, but rather the fact that you’re listening to it. When you start wondering whether or not to believe it, that’s when it begins to grow.
The more you pay attention to a thought, the more the doubt creeps in.
In that moment we all have a choice. Every writer gets thoughts like these. When the thought comes, we can either view it as an echo from an earlier time or we can become attached to it and give it power.
Don’t believe your thoughts. With thought awareness, every writer has the ability to remain free of negativity and doubt.
This is why I believe mindset work is so powerful; the way we respond to our thoughts has a direct impact on our writing.
In fact, by treating a thought as something familiar and powerless, you can ignore it. You can even strengthen your resolve by telling yourself that you won’t let it get in your way.
You’re in control of your destiny.
All you have to do is separate the thought from your goals. Next time you experience the voice of doubt trying to stop you, remember the choice that you have. Don’t believe your thoughts. With a little thought awareness, you can eliminate those mental obstacles and keep on writing no matter what.
