The idea of installing a complete solar electrical system in your van or RV may seem overwhelming. The setup that Robert currently has in his van is a simple solar system that many people would be able to install. This system is simple, but it provides portable solar for boondocking off grid. By using a portable solar panel that is deployed while camping there is no need to mount the solar panels on the roof.
We want to emphasize two things with this video. First, it is possible to setup a basic 100 or 200 Watt solar system that will be adequate for those with light to moderate power needs without much difficulty or expense. Second, we want to acknowledge that Robert will be upgrading his setup soon and will likely be using a combination of roof-mounted and portable panels to provide enough power for his needs, which include powering a laptop all day and eventually adding a small refrigerator and electric cooking option.
We hope that you enjoy this video as we demonstrate a simple solar system that actually works reasonably well.
