According to the United States Air Force, the bomber was one of three US B-52H bombers from the 5th Bomb Wing based at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, on a training mission around the Black Sea and Baltic.
However, the US Air Force did not recognize the interception of the bomber. In a statement, the Air Force said its bombers were in the area to support training in Europe.
"The bombers will take part in three exercises in the Baltic and Black Sea regions, providing opportunities for training with our allies and partners. "The mission of strategic bombers increases the readiness and training needed to respond to potential crises or challenges throughout the world," read the statement.
