Ruptly is live from London, June 2 as demonstrators take part in the annual Al-Quds Day rally in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Al-Quds Day, which falls on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan, is an annual event first introduced in 1979 by late Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, as a day of protest against Zionism and Israel’s control of Jerusalem.

Despite continued efforts to ban the event on the grounds of anti-Semitism, protesters are expected to assemble outside the buildings of the UK Home Office on Sunday afternoon.

The demonstration has courted controversy in the past, with the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan urging the Home Secretary Sajid Javid to close a legal loophole surrounding the raising of Hezbollah flags in the run up to last year’s event.
